Something tiny got my attention today.

I watched as a hummingbird darted around our back deck.

These creatures are among the world’s smallest birds, with one of its species about two inches long and weighing less than a paper clip.

They're the only birds that can fly backward, hover, and move sideways. These aerial acrobats do this by generating controlled lift.

Their wings don't merely flap up and down, but each swivels like a tiny airborne oar, giving it precision to chase larger intruders.

Next time you see a hummingbird, remember… your unusual ability may become an advantage.
