AUGUST 2025 Writers Workshop

What’s Your Book About? Crafting Your Elevator Pitch

Ever stumble through the dreaded “What’s your book about?” question? Or do you freeze when someone asks, “Why should I read it?”

If distilling your novel into a short pitch feels impossible, you’re not alone.

In this practical workshop, you’ll learn how to sharpen your story idea into a captivating one-liner you can use at book festivals, pitch sessions, or in line at Starbucks.

You’ll learn how to:

• Identify the heart of your story in one sentence

• Write a pitch that sounds natural, not salesy

• Tailor your pitch for agents, readers, or friends

• Use your pitch as a writing compass while drafting

• Avoid common mistakes that confuse rather than hook
